    About This Experience

Why Lover's Beach is worth the boat ride

Playa del Amor — Lover's Beach — is the pocket of white sand tucked under El Arco at Land's End, reachable only by water. It's the most famous beach in Los Cabos: the Arch towering overhead, sea lions barking from the rocks, pelicans dive-bombing the surf, and water so clear it looks Photoshopped. It earns the hype. The catch is entirely logistical — getting there, getting picked up, and knowing which side you can swim on. (For the full Arch experience, see our Arch tours guide.)

The two beaches (this is the important part)

Lover's Beach (Playa del Amor) faces the Sea of Cortez — calm, swimmable, snorkelable, the side in all the photos. This is where you swim.

Divorce Beach (Playa del Divorcio) is a two-minute scramble over the rocks — faces the open Pacific, spectacular, violent, and absolutely not for swimming. The undertow has killed people. Walk over for the drama and the photos, then walk back.

The dividing line is a jumble of granite boulders. Wear sandals you can scramble in, not flip-flops.

Getting there and back (the logistics that matter)

Water taxi from the marina: $15–25 per person round trip, 45 minutes of Arch sightseeing bundled in. This is the standard move.

The critical detail: agree on a pickup time BEFORE the driver leaves. Standard is 1–2 hours. Get the driver's name, boat name/number, and a phone number. Boats do come back for you — the system works — but only if the arrangement is explicit. "Come back in a couple hours" is not explicit.

Glass-bottom boats and tours also drop here; same pickup rules apply.

    What it costs

    • Water taxi round trip: $15–20 per person (negotiate at the marina, politely)
    • With Arch tour bundled: $20–25 per person
    • That's it. There are no entrance fees, no vendors, no services — which is the point and the planning constraint.

What to bring (everything — there is nothing there)

Water (more than you think — no shade, no vendors), reef-safe sunscreen, snorkel gear (the Lover's side snorkeling is genuinely good), snacks, a dry bag for your phone, sandals for the rock scramble, and a beach umbrella or shade tent if you're staying more than an hour. There are no bathrooms, no food, no shade, no trash cans — pack out everything you pack in.

    Good to know

    • Morning is the move: calmest water for the panga ride, best light for the Arch photos, fewest boats, and you'll have the beach nearly to yourself before 10 AM.
    • The famous "framed Arch" photo is taken from the Lover's Beach side at mid-morning — your panguero knows the angle; ask.
    • Sea lions haul out on the rocks at the point — close, loud, and unbothered. Give them space; they're wild animals with teeth.
    • Snorkeling on the Lover's side is excellent in calm conditions — reef patches with angelfish and rays, right off the sand. Bring your own gear; nobody rents here.
    • Whale season (Dec–Apr): spouts visible from the beach on calm mornings. Bring binoculars if you're here in February.
    • Stay on the Lover's side for swimming, always. Every year someone underestimates Divorce Beach. Don't be that story.

    Frequently asked questions

    How long should we stay?

1.5–2 hours is the sweet spot — swim, snorkel, scramble to Divorce Beach for photos, done. Longer than that with no shade or facilities gets uncomfortable.

    Can we get stranded?

Not if you set the pickup explicitly. The pangueros run this route all day; your driver will be back. Bring the boat number and a charged phone as backup.

    Is it good for kids?

The Lover's side is great for kids — calm, shallow entry, sea lions to watch. The rock scramble to Divorce Beach is for older kids only. Bring shade and snacks; kids melt faster than adults.

    Can you camp overnight?

No — day visits only, and the rocks are a terrible idea after dark. The last pickups run mid-afternoon.

    Is it crowded?

Before 10 AM: magical and nearly empty. Midday in high season: shared with several boatloads. The beach is small — timing is everything.
