San José del Cabo: Where to Stay, Eat & Explore

Colonial charm, world-class art galleries, and a quieter pace in Cabo's cultural heart.

    Overview

San José del Cabo is Cabo's quieter, more refined sibling. Where Cabo San Lucas pulses with party energy, San José charms with cobblestone streets, colonial architecture, and one of Mexico's best small-town art scenes. Thursday night Art Walks draw locals and visitors to browse galleries and sip wine.

The town is centered around the historic Plaza Mijares, where you'll find the 18th-century mission church, excellent restaurants, and boutique shops. It's the kind of place where you linger over a long lunch, explore galleries in the afternoon, and dress up for a nice dinner.

While San José has a beach (Playa Hotelera), it's not as calm as Medano. Many visitors stay at the nearby Corridor resorts and come to town for dining and culture. It's ideal for couples, art lovers, and anyone who prefers sophistication over spring break vibes.
